Tips to Make the Most of Your Sagrada Familia Visit
No trip to Barcelona is complete without a visit to the Sagrada Familia, Antoni Gaudi’s architectural masterpiece. The Sagrada Familia is one of the most unique churches I have ever visited. Get ready to be almost hypnotized by the juxtaposition, creativity, attention to detail, and magnificently strange design creations at every turn.
However, the entrance fee may take you by surprise. Especially when you see that it is higher than many well known museums and so many churches are free to enter. When we visited it was 26 euros to enter and 30 euros with a guided tour. But, do not let the price deter you from paying a visit inside when in Barcelona. And, now that I am spending your money, here are THREE TIPS for visiting Sagrada Familia that will help make it the most memorable experience — read on!

Tip #1 | Buy your ticket in advance
Purchase tickets online ahead of time through the official Sagrada Familia website. Tickets are available online two-months in advance; I suggest you keep an eye on the tickets a week ahead of time because they do sell out. Watch out, there are some sites that look official but are just resellers.
Tip #2 | Prepare ahead for the official audio guide
Your ticket from the Sagrada Familia website site includes the Sagrada Familia Official App with a downloadable audioguide. This audio guide is packed full of information and attention to details that you may otherwise miss; it really enhances your visit. However, you need to be prepared with a few things to make the most of this experience.
- Download the app when on a wifi connection
- Make sure your cellphone is fully charged
- Bring your headphones (fully charged if wireless)
The tower was not open when we visited, but I would have added that to our experience if we could have. Do you own research as I saw mixed reviews.
Tip #3 | Visit in the late afternoon to see the stained glass windows glow
Visit the basilica in the late afternoon to experience the warm glow of the stained glass windows. This will give you time to do the audio tour + be dazzled as the sun sets and the stained glass windows begin to sparkle and radiate in all directions.
We entered at 4:30 PM in April and the timing was perfect. The stained glass windows were at their peak around 5:15 PM – 5:30 PM. I don’t want to spoil it for you with more photos — you have to go see it for yourself!
