A little background...

Hi! I’m Marcy, and I created Fitz Travel Bits after being inundated with requests from friends, friends of friends, and colleagues who were seeking travel recommendations and family adventure travel advice. The reason was simple: I’ve had the incredible opportunity to explore numerous exciting destinations with my favorite four guys in the world. Along the way, I have become an expert in crafting unforgettable itineraries that focus on adventure while carefully managing costs to ensure that we can continue to explore the world together.

I hope our stories and tips help with your family adventure travel planning.

Where did this passion for adventure travel and discovering new cultures begin? My husband and I were both born and raised in the Chicago area. Neither of us had the opportunity to study abroad in college, so we began traveling together in our 20s. This initial exploration quickly evolved into a passion for adventure travel, taking us on incredible journeys, such as a detour from the Greek islands to the breathtaking Cappadocia region in Turkey, as well as visiting Los Roques and Margarita Island in Venezuela simply because the names sounded cool. Like many of you, our family grew from a party of two to a party of five. Initially, traveling with our three boys revolved around visiting friends and family, as well as trips to Disney World. However, when my youngest guy turned eight years old, our vacation style shifted back to adventure travel — family adventure travel.

The. Best. Family. Bonding.

Hands down, travel has made our family grow closer. Instead of going in different directions we are exploring, laughing, discovering, learning, and telling stories together. Our passion for travel extends to international adventures, ski trips, and a lot in between. However, we also recognize the importance of couples’ travel, since a little relaxation and rejuvenation benefits everyone.

Q: Why do you like to go to Central America in November?

A: It’s the best time to immerse yourself in the local culture. Bonus: less expensive and less crowded at the end of their green (rainy) season!

Q: What is your favorite vacation?

A. Galapagos! And, skip the expensive cruise. Do an amazing land-based trip, and it doesn’t break the bank

Q. How did you get such great airfare to Paris?

A. Check out the map selection feature in Google Flights! Yes, it’s possible to experience a new culture for the same price as a domestic trip.

Who, what, where, why, when, how, and how much?

I can provide answers to many of these questions based on personal travel experiences and oodles of research and planning to get there. My educational background is in Industrial Design, complemented by an MBA. Throughout my professional career, I have gained valuable expertise in marketing, procurement, IT systems, and consulting. This unique blend of creativity, strategy, meticulous organization, and a love of learning and spreadsheets has equipped me with the skills to launch Fitz Travel Bits and offer valuable insights and recommendations to fellow travelers like you.

How to travel "without breaking the bank?"

I pay careful attention to costs so we can travel as often as work and school schedules allow. It takes diligent planning, spreadsheets, and creativity to ensure that our itineraries are time-efficient and cost-effective. Don’t be surprised to see occasional splurges. We are not budget travelers, but know that I am focused on getting the best value every step of the way.
